A Unique Combination of Therapies

Although some sources indicate that music was attributed magical or healing powers since at least the ancient times, it was only in the 20th century, that the notion of a profession in this field was emerging in an experimental state, particularly in Canada and the United States.

In the 1940s and 1950s, music therapy was used on convalescent soldiers to try to relieve the traumas of war: insomnia, post-combat depression, anxiety...  Subsequently, in-depth researches were carried out in various institutes, in France and abroad. Such as the Karajan Institute in Salzburg, which studies the physiological power of music, or the ARATP (Association for Research and Application of Psychomusical Techniques) in Paris. The Émile Jaques-Dalcroze Institute in Geneva, created in 1915.

In France, it was a sound engineer, Jacques Jost, who served as a pioneer in 1954 and posited the hypothesis that we could heal with music. It is based on a clinical basis with the help of the Encephalography Laboratory of the Clinique des Maladies Mentales et de l'Encephalon, at the Faculty of Medicine of Paris. He does researches on emotions and music. He also used to meet with a director of Radio France and validates his research with the help of a music listening program on the radio. For eighteen years, he continued the study and application of psychomusical techniques in psychiatry, in collaboration with Dr. Guilhot and Garnier and he set up a musical receptivity test that can be used with patients in music therapy sessions to:

-Restore, maintain, or improve social capacities and behaviors,

-Stabilize the mind and body of a person,

-Improve energy, focus, memory, calm, confidence, and joy,

-Stimulate intellectual work,

This test is available at the CIM. The first world congress of music therapy took place in France in 1974 at the Hôpital de la Salpêtrière . Studies concerning the action of music on the body are therefore recent. They try to demonstrate that listening to certain music has physiological and psychological repercussions on the body, in particular at the cardiovascular, respiratory, muscular and vegetative level.

A little history!

Physicist Isaac Newton discovered in 1665 that white light could be broken down into 7 fundamental colors. Indeed, if a white light goes through a triangular prism, one sees distinctly 7 colors and the same phenomenon can be reproduced with a faceted quartz.

This discovery was highlighted by the Danish doctor Niels Ryberg Finsen (Nobel Prize for physiology in 1903) for his discovery of the healing virtues of light , and in particular for the treatment of lupus vulgaris.

Chromatherapy, chromotherapy, or “color cure” are the different names of an accompanying method using colored lights projected on the body or in a localized manner. It is to be differentiated from Light Therapy because it is based on less powerful and colored light sources.

Each color constantly causes a biological and psychic effect on a living organism. The colored light of low intensity, unlike certain phototherapies, would promote, by physiological stimulation, the spontaneous responses of the organism because our cells are luminescent (biophotons). This support requires a diagnosis on three levels: anatomical, energetic, psychological.

There are two types of chromotherapy:

  1. light chromotherapy.
This consists in projecting colored light rays, obtained by the passage of a white light (LED for cold light) through specific color filters causing precise wavelengths in the visible.

  2. molecular chromotherapy.
Uses the same wavelengths as light chromotherapy, but coming from matter (measured with a mass spectrometer) and not from light. Each wavelength is chosen according to the clinical signs to be treated and has the same effect whether it originates from light or matter.

Wouldn't our first light therapy device be the sun itself!

The sun, offering us our vitamin D3 quota in the summer by photosynthesis. A bioenergetic process that allows plants, humans and certain bacteria to synthesize organic matter by harnessing sunlight. The nutrient requirements of these organisms are carbon dioxide, water and mineral salts.

The use of light therapy in clinical psychiatry made its first appearance in 1984 to treat seasonal depression . This discovery is made by Norman E. Rosenthal and his colleagues at the National Institute of Mental Health in the United States.
It was not until 2005, almost 20 years later, that the obvious effectiveness of treatment by light therapy was recognized by colleges and professional associations of American psychiatry, against seasonal depression and certain sleep disorders. It then became a medical device, which uses very low frequencies to fight against seasonal depression and insomnia, rebalance the biological clock, and promote the production of vitamin D3, in place of summer sun rays.
Researches show that the metabolism of melatonin (the sleep hormone) is out of order in people with seasonal depression...

With these individuals, a particularly high melatonin level is observed during the day, which explains the fatigue during the day. Stimulating the ganglion cells of the retina (non-imaging photoreceptors) in the morning makes it possible to block the transformation of serotonin into melatonin during the day, and consequently the secretion of melatonin by the epiphysis ( pineal gland ).
In addition, there is a "reprogramming" of the biological clock by allowing normal secretion of melatonin at night according to the sleep phases.

Literally speaking, this word means "method which heals by the use of stones" from the ancient Greek 'λίθος' [litʰos] and 'θεραπεύω' [tʰɛrapɛuʷɔ]: "Take care of...". What is defined today under the term "lithotherapy" is in fact a mixture of ancestral techniques using stones (for massaging in particular, like Amma massages in Japan, resulting from Chinese techniques using certain points of the body, or Japanese (shiatsu ), like acupuncture  ; or Ayurvedic medicine in India, using polished stones as massage tools, and chromotherapy (or Chromatherapy) using colors to soothe the mind and body.

Practices of lithotherapy

Crystals emit beneficial energy in whichever form it is: raw, polished, cut. The stones can thus be worn on oneself in the form of a pendant, a necklace, a bracelet or be placed in the room in its raw form, as a geode or a decorative object (animals, tree, fountain, etc.). The range area would increase with the size of the crystal. The sensitivity we have with minerals and stones is related to the presence of these minerals in the human body, for example, the magnetite located in the inner ear and the brain, which govern balance and our sense of direction. The presence of silicon dioxide (quartz) in every cell of our body. The iron, magnesium, potassium and many other minerals contained in the human body make it a huge transceiver sensitive to the presence of all the minerals present around it. Let us not forget that the operation of all our machines are based on the work of micro-processors composed of silicon (quartz).

Crystal healing, crystal acts according to its type on the "vibrational frequency" of certain points of the body, called Chakra or Meridian (TCM) (similar to those used in acupuncture). After using the crystals during a session or by simple daily use, it is necessary to purify the crystals that have been used. For this, lithotherapists use several methods depending on the physical sensitivity of the crystal. Among them there are: immersing the crystal in distilled water or unsalted spring water, burying it in the earth to "purify" it (the earth being supposed to act as a neutral ground, where "Energy" will pour out, "purifying" the stone), then deposit it on a mass of crystal (rock crystal, amethyst) called "druse" in solar, lunar or stellar light, in contact with nature or near of a flame, so that it "recharges" its natural "energy", which it will exchange again for the one from the patients.

Lithotherapy also adopts the conceptions of Kundalini Yoga and the 7 chakras, which according to their state, oversized, weakened or blocked, influence the general attitude of a person. The crystals would thus help to untie or rebalance the deficient chakras. Therefore, lithotherapy is also concerned with the influence of "vibrations", which would be emitted by the colors as in chromatherapy . Each chakra is attached to a color and crystals bearing that color would positively influence the linked chakra. Root Chakra (Red), Intestine (Orange), Solar Plexus (Yellow), Heart (Pink and Green), Throat (Blue), Third Eye (Indigo Blue), Crown (Purple) .
